Meet the Management Team

  • Katie Harron

    Professor of Statistics and Health Data Science

    Katie is the academic lead for ECHILD at UCL. She supervises a number of projects and students working with the data.

  • Ruth Blackburn

    Senior Research Fellow

    Ruth is the deputy lead for ECHILD and primarily works on studies of mental health.

  • Ruth Gilbert

    Professor of Clinical Epidemiology

    Ruth helped establish ECHILD and co-leads the NIHR Children and Families Policy Research Unit.

  • Milagros Ruiz Nishiki

    Data Resource Manager

    Milagros supports researchers in accessing and using the database while overseeing information governance, data access processes, stakeholder engagement, and resource management.

  • Vincent Nguyen

    Data Scientist

    Vincent's role is to manage the large datasets as part of ECHILD. His research interests include using linked administrative data for causal inference research in public health. 

  • Difei Shi

    Research Assistant

    Difei contributes to the ECHILD website and code list repository. She uses ECHILD to explore early years environments and children's health as part of the CHILI Hub, and the outcomes of children born to mothers with social care experience.

  • Ludi Wang

    Research Assistant

    Ludi contributes to the ECHILD website and records ongoing research. She is interested in evaluating the effectiveness of early life interventions such as antenatal care.

  • Matthew Jay

    Senior Research Fellow

    Matt uses linked administrative data such as ECHILD and family court data to understand the links between family health and family court proceedings. He was previously Senior Data Scientist on ECHILD, where he developed the How To Guides and Phenotype Code List Repository.

    Jo’s research focuses on improving data linkage quality and understanding how data quality shapes both the measurement and experience of inequalities in children’s health and education.

    Eliazar is an epidemiologist who uses ECHILD to examine interactions between health and children’s social care services.

  • Bianca De Stavola

    Professor of Medical Statistics

    Bianca is a retired biostatistician interested in the careful application of statistical methods for causal research.

  • Louise Mc Grath-Lone

    Senior Research Fellow

    Louise uses linked administrative data such as ECHILD for research related to services for children and families. She was previously a Data Scientist on ECHILD, where she developed the User Guide and Data Dictionary.

  • Catherine Stewart

    Research Assistant

    Catherine’s research focuses on understanding how maternal preconception health influences pregnancy outcomes, as well as the long-term health and developmental of children. She primarily uses the Maternity Services Data Set (MSDS) to investigate population-level patterns and outcomes.

    Joachim uses ECHILD to examine the health and educational trajectories of children with complex health conditions, focusing on congenital anomalies and rare diseases.

    Clinical Research Fellow

    Kerrie works with people with lived experience of maternity care to get answers about how to improve maternity care across the UK, especially for people with complex health and social needs.

  • Louise Macaulay

    Research Fellow

    Louise’s research uses ECHILD to examine health and educational outcomes among children and young people with complex health needs, from childhood into early adulthood.

  • Niloofar Shoari

    Senior Research Fellow

    Niloofar’s research investigates how the school environment, including building characteristics, indoor air quality, and thermal comfort, affects children’s and adolescents’ health and school attendance.

    Tara is a PhD student exploring self-harm and suicide amongst care-experienced young people.

  • Nancy Daza Báez

    Research Fellow

    Nancy's research uses ECHILD's linked health and education data to understand the long-term outcomes of children who survive cancer. Nancy is also interested in women's health and in how health inequalities develop across childhood and pass between generations.
