Spotlight on early intervention: Evidencing impact and progressing understandings of preventative support for children, using administrative data.

One of the key recommendations of the ADR England’s Community Catalyst Children at Risk of Poor Outcomes project for the administrative data research community is to deliver evidence that interrogates and informs earlier intervention and prevention. The ADR England Community Catalyst Children at Risk of Poor Outcomes team are pleased to announce an upcoming webinar exploring use of administrative data (including local authority) across a range of exciting research projects examining the impact and developing understandings of preventative intervention/s in the lives of children and families in the UK. Speakers will present research, provide insights and discuss emerging methodological developments in the field, including novel applications of statistical modelling.

We are pleased to announce the following speakers:

Dr Calum Webb, Sheffield University

Calum joined the Sheffield Methods Institute as a British Academy Postdoctoral Research Fellow in September 2021. His research explores socioeconomic inequalities in the child welfare system and their relationship to fiscal and social policy using quantitative research methods.

Professor Katie Harron, University College London

Katie Harron is Professor of Statistics and Health Data Science at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. Katie leads the ECHILD Research Database which links administrative data from health, education and children’s social care services for all children in England.

Dr Sarah Cattan, Economist - Nesta

Sarah is an economist with over a decade of experience conducting policy-relevant research on early childhood development and policy.  Before joining Nesta, Sarah worked at the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) for 11 years, where she led their work on education and skills. Sarah has conducted influential work on key national early years policies in the UK

Dr Eliazar Luna, University College London

Eliazar is a Research Fellow at the UCL GOS Institute of Child Health, working within the Child Health Informatics Group. He uses the ECHILD database to analyse the health and social outcomes of children looked after and children in need. 

The session will be chaired by Professor Karen Broadhurst, Lancaster University, Co-lead ADR England Community Catalyst Children at Risk of Poor Outcomes project.
